All gone, but....

Paul's sister here on update duty tonight. The good news -- the CT and MRI scans showed that Dr. Zubay got out the whole stinking thing, just as he'd thought. Before the surgery he said it was kind of a long shot that he'd get it all. There was talk of maybe needing radiation afterwards to shrink the rest of it (which doesn't mean they think it's cancer, because they don't). Now that the tumor is all gone that's no longer something to worry about. However the scans also showed that there's some fluid building up in the spinal column in his neck that needs to be drained. So tomorrow Paul has to go back to ICU for Dr. Zubay to put a drain in his lower spine in hopes that it can draw off enough spinal fluid to take care of the buildup. It's by no means certain that this will work, so it's possible that the surgeon may have to open up his neck again to get rid of the fluid. Continue to send best wishes, prayers, and crossed fingers (figuratively speaking, please, not literally) that the back drain does the job so that he doesn't need another operation. He's back in intensive care so they can keep a closer eye on things for now.

In other news, the physical therapist came today to make him get out of bed and show him the moves so he can get up by himself. This is an important step towards being able to choose his own Simpsons episodes when he gets back home.

Paul, Cheree, Paul's parents and I send our appreciation for everyone's kindness and caring. We all know what a good guy he is. But seeing all the love and caring and connections on this blog make it clear just how many people have the good fortune to have him in their lives, and just how much they appreciate that. Thanks.

Kate

Thank you for the update Kate. Thank you to you and Cheree for keeping the blog updated. Eddie is checking for updates regularly rather than bothering you right now with phone calls. Fingers and paws crossed.

Hey, Paul, dude,

I am the one who is supposed to sick and trying to recover. Not you. You are way to young and sound like you have been having too much fun. I have to say, not in the last couple of days however. I send you much sympathy. I can totally understand when something hurts forever and you are like "what the hell is frickin wrong with me." I felt and feel like I needed a body transplant. I am having my own CT and MRIs tomorrow, to see if my little tumors are smaller. Anyway, I think you are in much more pain than me at the moment. I wish you the very best Paul. I know you will get better and there will be no more surgeries in 2011. I think it will be a banner year for you and your family and cute dog. He is quite adorable and I am sure demanding. (This is Ann McCann by the way, if you remember me.) Jean sent me your blog. Take care and get well. I send all my prayers and good thoughts to you. I had no idea you were going through such a scary trial. Take care and I expect to here wonderful things about you. Crossing all our fingers. However, won't send you any.

Paul, I've been thinking about you everyday and it appears many more people are too. Hope things go exactly and as easily as possible. A special thanks to your family for keeping us all informed. You know, we all think you are one of the nicest people in the entire world.

So glad to hear that our buddy Paul made it through okay. Stay strong :) Fun walking Chili to the dog park story to cheer you up, Paul and Cheree. One: don't let me forget to take that handsome devil to the park more often. He is a major magnet for men - especially when he decides to go cruisin' unannounced through their legs from behind. "Helllllloooo! I'm Chili and I like to go through legs." So embarrassing! Two: After 30 mins. or so of violating strangers and playing with a boxer mix, Morgie decides it is time begin the long trek home. Chili disagrees. Instead, he decides to stage a full on puppy sit in by laying down flat on his back, all four paws pointing to the sky in protest. "He's not mine!" I keep telling people as they laugh and point - gently (at first) tugging on the leash. "Get up, Chili! Come on, boy!" Finally got him up by sprinting away from him until he panicked and followed. The dude attempted to resist twice more on the walk home - once in the middle of the crosswalk. This dog is NOT going to lay in the middle of the street, is he? For the love of....That Chili, I tell ya! Good thing he's so darn cute. I could've killed him. Looking forward to our next adventure. Get well, Paul. Thinking about you guys a lot. Call if you need anything - Cheree, I mean it about the laundry and the groceries. No chore to menial for this girl. Truly.
